The CIF Teacher Workshop for all participating teachers was held December 4 - 6, 2008, in Monterey, California.

Important Student Project Expectations

Benchmarks:

One of the goals of CIF is to create an on-line archive of student work on nonproliferation issues in response to the benchmarks. These are the student "products." These products may take any format, as long as they can be eventually displayed on the CIF web site. Therefore, Word files, Power Point presentations, PDF files, a complete web site or any other commonly used digital format for the web are acceptable.

The due dates for benchmark submittals were determined at the CIF Teacher Workshop:
  • Benchmark I deadline and submission - Friday, February 27, 2009
  • Benchmark II deadline and submission - Tuesday, March 31, 2009
  • Benchmark III and any corrections to Benchmarks I and/or II - Friday, May 22, 2009

Please note: all Russian benchmark results must be submitted directly to Luba who will review them and then forward them to Masako. The dates shown above are the deadline dates for Masako to receive the benchmark results. Russian CIF teachers will need to submit benchmark results to Luba ahead of the dates shown above. Russian teachers must contact Luba for those advance dates.

Student Conference and presentations:

The CIF 2008 - 2009 CIF Student Conference was held Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Hyatt Hotel in Monterey, California.

Students should not consider recitation of the submitted Benchmark work (talking heads) as adequate for the conference presentation. CIF leaders are looking for academically sound synthesis, analysis, and evaluation results for this year's topic presented in a creative manner.

Citations:

All student products must include internal citations for all books, articles, web resources and other reference materials used plus a bibliography. Any style manual in common use may be followed. Check out the “About Bibliographies and Citations” section on the CIF Resource Links page. Especially review "Citation and Paraphrasing," by Lisa Donohoe, CNS Project Manager, English Language and Nonproliferation Program in either the Web version or original Powerpoint file.
